West Surrey Centre

chairman's welcome

Dear Members,

Hello to all members of West Surrey Centre and any one else reading this. Some of you may be aware that my husband and I due to health issues decided that we would sell our motorhome, which we have done.

I hasten to add that with the support of my committee I will continue to remain as chairman until the next AGM. I will renew my membership to enable me to do so.

Selling our motorhome was not straightforward as one would hope. The first person that came to view it claimed that it was riddled with damp,  and pointed out one cupboard being very wet with water running down the wall. An alarm bell rang in my head. He said due to this he was no longer interested but he knew someone who may be. He rang this person, and yes he was interested and made an insulting offer. Needless to say I declined and said that I would contact the dealer that sold it to me.

A couple of hours later I received a message from someone interested in the motorhome and could come the following morning. He duly arrived, and went over the interior with his damp meter that was continuously bleaping. According to him the roof was about to cave in, but still made a very low offer. I declined and he left. In one hour he messaged me 16 times upping his offer each time. I declined all as I was convinced he was the man that the other guy rang the previous day.

The motorhome was sold a few days later to a dealer and he said what I had experienced was a well known scam performed by travellers, when one comes and sprays water in cupboards, then phone the friend, who if you decline rings the following day showing interest.

So my friends if you or anyone you may know who wants to sell their caravan or motorhome privately please warn them of this scam. I wouldn't wish that experience on my worst enemy!!

On that note I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year.

I look forward to seeing you at the coffee mornings.

Doreen.
